Reduced prices for most electric salt lamps

Salt lamps are made from pieces of natural salt lit from within by T light candles or electric lights causing them to glow with the natural orange colour of salt. We have recently received more electric salt lamps than we can store so prices of these have been reduced.

As salt is a natural substance each lamp varies. Some are paler, others more orange. Usually they have patches of various colours often in bands across the salt. Lamps also vary in their proportions and are sold by weight.

Salt Lamp Candles Egg Shaped

We now also have a stock of egg shaped T light candle lamps. These are rather like eggs with the top and bottom sliced off. The salt is cut flat on the base and at the top. The body of the egg is turned to a smooth finish. Like all of our salt candles they are supplied with a T light candle.

Cone candle lamps consist of a black metal spiral frame which holds a shaped conical piece of salt. A tea light candle in a hole in the top of the cone provides the light showing the beautiful colour of natural salt.

The salt is millions of years old and is mined in the foothills of the Himalayas where it has lain undisturbed and unpolluted. Lamps are made from either naturally shaped pieces or shaped as in the sphere. The natural salt and sphere electric lamps are on wooden bases and supplied complete with bulb, cable with an in line switch and a 3 pin plug. The electrical fittings are for the UK. The candle lamps are made entirely of salt with the base sawn flat and a hole drilled in the top to take tea light candles.

    Therapy in Salt Mines

Some salt mines have set up rooms underground for therapeutic use. Historically being with salt has been associated with good health particularly with respiratory problems such as therapy for asthma. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence of benefits gained from this. Some mines have set up underground rooms for people to spend time in. This link will take you out of our site to a BBC article about a Russian salt mine.

So far we have only seen anecdotal evidence and assertions of the benefits of salt. We would be interested in any links or references to medical or research evidence. Please email us if you can supply us with any information regarding this

Where can I use a salt lamp?

The lamps can be used in any place where you work rest or sleep. Salt lamps are not recommended in areas of high humidity such as kitchens and bathrooms.

Caring for salt lamps

As salt tends to attract moisture these lamps should not be washed or used in humid situations or out of doors. If they do show signs of dampness turning on the lamp or lighting the candle will dry them out. It is a good idea to run salt lamps for a short while every few days so that warmth of the bulb or the candle keeps the salt dry. Ensure first that any electrical parts are dry before using the lamp.

Salt lamps can be cleaned by dusting with a soft brush. The bulb may be changed by withdrawing the light fitting from the base. Replace the bulb with a similar one. They use small Edison screw fitting pygmy or candle bulbs of 15 or 25W. If the fuse in a plug fails it should be replaced with an identical fuse. T light candles are readily available and can be replaced from the top of the salt crystals.
